Trilogy – What we mean by ‘clean, natural beauty’

Trilogy – What we mean by ‘clean, natural beauty’

The term “clean beauty” refers to skincare and cosmetic products that are formulated without harmful chemicals, toxins, and synthetic ingredients. The importance of clean beauty lies in its focus on products that are safe, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly.

Why is this important?

Reduced exposure to toxins: Some conventional skincare products contain synthetic chemicals, preservatives, fragrances, and other additives that may be harmful. These ingredients can potentially irritate the skin, disrupt hormone balance, and even contribute to health problems. Choosing clean beauty products reduces exposure to such toxins, promoting overall wellbeing.

Skin health: Clean beauty products typically use natural and organic ingredients that are gentle and nourishing for the skin. Ingredients like plant extracts and natural oils provide hydration, antioxidants, and other beneficial nutrients that support healthy skin function.

Environmental sustainability: Some skincare products contain ingredients that are derived from petrochemicals and other non-renewable resources. These ingredients can have a negative impact on the environment during production, use, and disposal. Clean beauty brands prioritise sustainability by using eco-friendly packaging, sourcing renewable ingredients, and minimising their carbon footprint.

Animal welfare: Clean beauty brands are more likely to be cruelty-free and avoid animal testing, respecting animal welfare and promoting ethical practices in the beauty industry.

Transparency and accountability: Clean beauty brands are often transparent about their ingredients, sourcing practices, and manufacturing processes. Transparency allows consumers to make informed choices.

Our approach to skincare is to use clean, natural ingredients that are essential for noticeable results. We never add anything to our products unless it's absolutely necessary. That means no fillers: just potent, clean formulations for glowing happy skin.

As well as creating natural beauty products, we're committed to navigating our practices with a steady moral compass. To do that, we work closely with our partners and suppliers to find sustainable solutions, support communities, and back causes we believe in.

To us, 'clean natural beauty' means beauty with a conscience. It's our promise to continuously do better and be more responsible with the decisions we make for our customers, our products and our world.

Gentle Care: A Guide to Caring for Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin requires extra attention and care to maintain its health and beauty. Whether you experience redness, irritation, or allergic reactions, understanding how to properly care for your sensitive skin can make all the difference.

Sensitive skin is more prone to reactions such as redness, itching, burning, or dryness when exposed to certain products or environmental factors. Common triggers include harsh chemicals, fragrances, extreme weather conditions, and certain fabrics. Identifying your triggers is the first step in managing sensitive skin effectively.

In this guide, we'll explore tips and techniques to help you nurture and protect your delicate skin.

Choose Mild, Fragrance-Free Products: Opt for gentle, fragrance-free cleansers, moisturisers, and skincare products specifically formulated for sensitive skin.

Look for products with soothing ingredients like aloe vera, chamomile and calendula.

Patch Test New Products: Before using a new skincare product, perform a patch test on a small area of your skin to check for any adverse reactions.

Apply a small amount of the product to your inner forearm and wait 24-48 hours to see if any irritation occurs.

Protect Your Skin from the Sun: Wear sunscreen with a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor) daily to shield your skin from harmful UV rays. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that offers protection against both UVA and UVB rays.

Avoid Hot Water and Harsh Cleansers: Wash your face with lukewarm water and use a gentle, soap-free cleanser that won't strip your skin of its natural oils. Avoid scrubbing or using rough exfoliants, as they can further irritate sensitive skin.

Moisturise Regularly: Keep your skin hydrated by applying a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser morning and night. Look for moisturisers specifically designed for sensitive skin with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, essential fatty acids and ceramides to lock in moisture and strengthen the skin barrier.

Limit Exposure to Environmental Triggers: Protect your skin from harsh weather conditions by wearing a scarf, hat, or sunscreen when outdoors. Avoid prolonged exposure to hot or cold temperatures as this can exacerbate sensitive skin symptoms.

Choose Hypoallergenic Fabrics: Wear clothing made from soft, breathable fabrics like cotton to minimise irritation. Wash your clothes with fragrance-free detergent and avoid laundry products that contain harsh chemicals.

Practice Stress Management: Stress can trigger flare-ups in sensitive skin conditions like eczema or rosacea.

Practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or yoga to help manage stress levels and promote skin health.

Consult a Dermatologist: If you're struggling to manage your sensitive skin or experiencing persistent symptoms, seek advice from a dermatologist. A dermatologist can recommend personalised skincare products and treatments tailored to your specific needs.

Caring for sensitive skin requires patience, diligence, and a gentle touch. By following these tips and adopting a skincare routine tailored to your skin's unique needs, you can minimise irritation, reduce flare-ups, and maintain a healthy, radiant complexion. Remember to listen to your skin, avoid harsh ingredients, and prioritise gentle care to keep your sensitive skin happy and glowing.

When it comes to sensitive skin, natural is best. Dermatologically tested, Trilogy have an entire range dedicated to sensitive skincare to hydrate, nourish, and sooth irritated and irritable skin.

Unlocking Radiance: A Natural Approach to Glowing Skin

Unlocking radiance and achieving glowing skin often involves a holistic approach that combines skincare, nutrition, lifestyle habits and stress management.

Here's a guide to help you achieve that coveted radiant skin:

Skincare

  • Having a good consistent skincare routine in place is a great starting point.
  • Gentle Cleansing: Use a mild, hydrating cleanser to remove dirt and impurities without stripping your skin's natural oils.
  • Exfoliation: Incorporate exfoliation 2-3 times a week to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover. Choose a gentle exfoliant, such as those containing alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs).
  • Hydration: Keep your skin well-hydrated with a good moisturiser suitable for your skin type.
  • Sun Protection: Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily to protect your skin from harmful UV rays, preventing premature aging and pigmentation.
  • Natural Masks: For a special treat apply a face mask with natural ingredients to nourish and rejuvenate your skin.

Nutrition

  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from within. Herbal teas and infused water with fruits can add flavour.
  • Antioxidant-Rich Foods: Include fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants, such as berries, leafy greens, and citrus fruits. Antioxidants can help to combat free radicals that contribute to aging.
  • Healthy Fats: Omega-3 fatty acids found in fatty fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts help maintain skin elasticity and hydration.
  • Vitamins and Minerals: Consume foods with vitamins A, C, and E, as well as zinc and selenium, which support skin health. Carrots, oranges, almonds, and seeds are good choices.

Lifestyle

  • Adequate Sleep: Ensure you get 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night. During sleep, your body repairs, and regenerates, contributing to good skin health.
  • Exercise: Regular physical activity improves blood circulation, promoting a healthy complexion. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days.
  • Stress Management: Practice stress-reducing techniques like meditation, yoga, or deep breathing.
  • Avoid Smoking and Limit Alcohol: Smoking accelerates aging, and alcohol consumption can dehydrate the skin.
  • Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Choose skincare products free from harsh chemicals and fragrances that can irritate the skin.
  • Professional Advice: If you have specific skin concerns, consult a dermatologist for personalised advice and treatment options.

Remember, achieving radiant skin is a gradual process, and consistency is key. Embrace a holistic approach, be patient, and enjoy the journey to healthier, glowing skin!

Skincare Self-care tips for Christmas

Skincare Self-care tips for Christmas

Why not indulge in a little pampering self-care to look after your skin during the Christmas? Here are some self-care tips for giving your skin a little TLC during the festivities:

1. Hydrate, Inside and Out: Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Also, use a good moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated, especially in cold or dry weather.

2. Gentle Cleansing: Use a gentle cleanser to remove makeup, impurities, and pollutants from your skin. Avoid harsh cleansers that can strip away natural oils.

3. Protect Your Skin: If you'll be spending time outdoors, use a moisturiser to protect your skin from harsh winter elements.

4. Pamper Yourself with a Mask: Treat yourself to a hydrating or soothing face mask, a nice way to relax and care for your skin.

5. Eye Care: Lack of sleep and holiday stress can take its toll, use a nourishing eye cream to reduce puffiness and dark circles.

6. Exfoliate: Include exfoliation in your skincare routine to remove dead skin cells and reveal a brighter complexion.

7. Lip Care: Keep your lips moisturised with a good balm. Cold weather can lead to chapped lips, so apply balm regularly to keep them soft.

8. Relaxing Bath:  Enjoy a relaxing bath with your favourite bath salt or body wash, unwind and nourish your skin at the same time.

9. Use a Humidifier: Especially in dry climates or if using indoor heating, consider using a humidifier to add moisture to the air. This will help prevent your skin from drying out.

10. Hand Care: Don't forget about your hands, they can suffer from dryness in winter. Use a nourishing hand cream to keep your hands soft and moisturised.

Embrace the joy, unwrap the peace, and take a little time for yourself during the festivities!

Why Rosehip Oil?

Why Rosehip Oil

WHY ROSEHIP OIL?

Rich in nutrients: Rosehip oil is packed with essential fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants, including vitamins A, C, and E, known for their skin-nourishing properties.

Moisturising: Rosehip Oil is known for its excellent moisturising properties. It helps to hydrate the skin, making it softer and smoother.

Anti-Aging Properties: The high content of vitamin A, which is a form of retinol, can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It encourages cell turnover, promoting fresher, more youthful-looking skin.

Antioxidant Protection: The antioxidants in rosehip oil help protect the skin from free radical damage caused by environmental factors like pollution.

Anti-Inflammatory: It contains anti-inflammatory compounds that can help calm irritated skin and reduce redness. This makes it suitable for sensitive or easily irritated skin.

Scar Healing: Due to its high content of essential fatty acids, rosehip oil is known to help improve the appearance of scars, including acne scars and stretch marks.

Regulates Sebum Production: Contrary to the belief that oils can lead to breakouts, rosehip oil is non-comedogenic and can actually help regulate sebum production, making it suitable for oily or acne-prone skin.

Suitable for All Skin Types: Rosehip oil is generally well-tolerated by most skin types, including sensitive skin. However, it's always recommended to do a patch test to ensure there are no adverse reactions.

Natural with no nasties: Unlike some synthetic skincare products that may contain potentially harmful chemicals, rosehip oil is a natural and pure extract from the seeds of the rose plant.

Great multi-tasking product: It can be used in various ways, including as a standalone moisturiser, mixed with other skincare products or foundation, it can be used from head to toe!

How much do I use? When should I apply? How does it work into a skincare routine? Read on for all your rosehip questions answered.

How much oil to use: The secret to using rosehip seed oil is a little goes a long way. If you’re left with an oily residue on your skin after applying, you’re likely using too much. 2-3 drops are generally enough. Warm between the fingertips and gently massaged into skin.

How to incorporate into your regular skincare routine:

We’re all about catering to a range of skincare needs, from the fuss-free to the 15-step beauty junkies. So, there’s no right or wrong way of using the oil. But a handy rule (and this applies to all skincare layering), we generally recommend applying the most concentrated products first. This allows for maximum absorption, with no barrier from other product formulations. So, apply rosehip seed oil after cleansing, exfoliating and toning, but before moisturising.

  • For the face - three drops, twice a day. It’s so simple and such and easy thing to do to reap big rewards. This essential fatty acid rich oil (including omega 6 fatty acids) is loved by skin, and it will drink it up. Not a fan on putting oil directly on your face, no problem. Simple add a couple drops to your moisturiser (day or night cream) before applying to the skin and you’ll still get all the benefits.
  • For scars - first you need to wait for the wound to completely heal, we don’t advise applying rosehip seed oil to broken skin. As soon as you’re sealed up, start applying rosehip seed oil regularly with gentle, circular massage, at least twice a day to the affected area.
  • For stretchmarks - stretchmarks are a type of scar and should be worn with pride. As above, apply rosehip seed oil regularly with gentle, circular massage, at least twice a day to the affected area.
  • For a growing baby bump - use rosehip seed oil to help support the skin on the belly as you go through this amazing transformation. It’s such a special and unique time, taking a little extra care by regularly massaging rosehip seed oil into your belly throughout pregnancy will not only support your skin, but it may also help you connect with baby.
  • For body - while rosehip seed oil is precious, it can care for the skin all over your body. You might need to be heavier handed than 2-3 drops, but don’t hesitate to do so. This nourishing oil can hydrate and improve the overall health of skin from top to toe.
  • For hair - here’s a handy tip. After applying rosehip seed oil to your body or face, run any remaining oil left on your hands through the ends of your hair to give it a little hydration boost.
  • For cuticles and nails - take some time during a Netflix session to massage a drop or two into your cuticles and nails.

Age-proof your skin naturally!

 Age-proof your skin naturally!

Without a doubt, ageing is one of our number one skin concerns. And it gets a bit of a bad rep for something that’s a sign of a life well lived but if we can smooth the lines on our face a bit or lighten up those ‘age spots’ then we’re not going to say no.

After all, it’s not about avoiding ageing – it’s about ageing gently.

What causes skin ageing?

There are two types of skin ageing - intrinsic ageing (which we can’t control) and extrinsic ageing (which we can).

Intrinsic Ageing

Intrinsic ageing depends on our genetics and happens naturally as our skin cells biologically age. This causes a drop in the production of collagen - the structural support for the skin which gives it its plump, youthful firmness - and elastin, which provides it with resilience and elasticity.

Extrinsic Ageing

Extrinsic ageing, sometimes called photo-aging, is caused by long-term external stressors. Since it’s the one we have control over, it’s convenient that this is the main cause of visible ageing. Things like late nights, pollution and sun exposure start to take their toll. Photo-aged skin not only has the effects of intrinsic ageing but also shows an increase in skin surface roughness and wrinkles, further reduced firmness and elasticity, as well as dryness and increased uneven pigmentation.

What are the signs of ageing?

The drop in collagen and elastin production causes the deterioration of skin structure and function, making it lose firmness and volume. This in turn causes skin to become looser and form fine lines and wrinkles - these are often first spotted in areas where your skin is naturally thinner, such as the skin around your eyes.

Another aspect of ageing is slower cell turnover which can lead to a dull appearance. The skin barrier function can be compromised too, making it harder for your skin to hang on to moisture, causing it to lose its natural glow and for fine lines to become more pronounced.

Caring for ageing skin

  • SPF - with sun damage being the number one cause of premature ageing, it’s important to protect your skin, Every. Single. Day.
  • Hydration - as skin ages, it may struggle to retain moisture and dehydrated skin will more easily show fine lines and wrinkles. Drink plenty of water and incorporate water-packed foods such as cucumber into your diet.
  • Lifestyle and diet - life is for living, and sometimes late nights and beach trips are a must. Just make sure to keep things balanced by getting plenty of sleep to limit stress and help your skin regenerate overnight and keep an eye on your alcohol intake.
  • Keep a consistent skincare routine – make your skincare routine as the bookends of each day non-negotiable.

Your Ageless Skincare Routine

Cleanse - our Active Enzyme Cleansing Cream is a certified natural, velvety cleanser that works to remove make-up and daily impurities while natural active fruit enzymes (AHAs) gently exfoliate and brighten skin by encouraging skin cell turnover.

Reveal fresh, glowing skin - for added exfoliation, reach for one that’s gentle. Triple Action Jelly Exfoliator is an all-in-one, non-abrasive exfoliant that gently buffs, brightens and smooths skin in three different ways.

Treat with serums - enriched with hyaluronic acid and our Glycablend™ seed complex, Nutrient Plus Firming Serum firms, smooths and refreshes the complexion by encouraging collagen production and increasing hydration.

Focus on the eyes - for a lot of us, our eyes are the first to show signs of ageing because the skin is so delicate. It’s for this same reason that they need their own mini routine. Our CoQ10 Eye Recovery Concentrate is infused with the goodness of caffeine to lift, CoQ10 to renew, hyaluronic acid to hydrate and super-ingredient L22®, all of which combine to energise, brighten and tone.

Lock in hydration - lock in hydration and nourish your skin with a facial oil. Our two favourites for ageing skin are Rosapene™ Bakuchiol Oil and the CoQ10 Booster Oil.

  • Rosapene™ Bakuchiol Oil: A natural alternative to retinol that’s safe for pregnancy, in the sun, and for sensitive skin. It works to target hyperpigmentation, smooth fine lines, and improve brightness.
  • CoQ10 Booster Oil: Packed with potent, natural antioxidant CoQ10 and our glycation-fighting complex Glycablend™, this powerful pure plant oil boosts skin recovery, radiance and smooths the appearance of fine lines.

Nourish as you sleep - our skin regenerates as we sleep which makes both sleep itself and the products we use at night vital parts of the skincare routine. Our Replenishing Night Cream rejuvenates with natural actives that help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while hydrating so you’ll wake up with bouncier skin.

If your skin is ageing you might notice: a loss of elasticity, fine lines and wrinkles, a papery texture, and hyperpigmentation. Since, as we age, we produce less collagen all those signs of ageing are inevitable as this is what gives skin its bounce and plump.

What to use:

If the signs of ageing are lines, dullness, slackness, and hyperpigmentation then the way to address those is with ingredients that smooth, brighten, plump, and even.

The best ingredients, then, will be rich in antioxidants (vitamins C & E, Rosapene™), encourage collagen production and cell turnover (CoQ10, vitamin C, bakuchiol), and plump and hydrate (hyaluronic acid, Glycablend). You can find all these ingredients in our ageless range (the red and purple packaging).

NEW Vitamin C Microdermabrasion

If you’ve heard of microdermabrasion, chances are it’s in the context of a beauty salon, with an expensive machine and a licensed professional. And you’d be right!

Historically, microdermabrasion has been a service offered by beauty therapists and what it is, is precision ‘sandblasting’ (exfoliating) of the skin for about 30 – 45 minutes to remove the top layer of skin. It’s popular for helping to reduce scarring, hyperpigmentation, and stretch marks.

Enter Vitamin C Microdermabrasion. Trilogy are bringing their own microdermabrasion to your bathroom shelf, to get that glowing, smooth ‘just had a facial’ look but without needing to leave the house.

Introducing Vitamin C Microdermabrasion

The first thing you need to know about this super exfoliating product is that it’s dual action. Soft and whipped in texture, this formula combines both natural chemical exfoliation with physical exfoliation which means while you’re sloughing away dead skin, you’re also getting the benefit of five natural AHAs which help to unclog pores, even out skin tone and minimise fine lines.

To really take things to the next level, Trilogy have also added some antioxidising, skin-brightening vitamin C to the mix to help erase signs of hyperpigmentation and slow signs of ageing.

The ingredients

Vitamin C Microdermabrasion is a wash-off mousse-like cream made up of three key ingredients that make it such a powerful addition to your routine.

1. Pumice

Mineral-rich, finely milled pumice powder is what gives this cream its microdermabrasion action, and its subtly gritty feeling. Naturally exfoliating, it polishes without damaging and, in removing those fine dead layers of skin, promotes a smoother, more youthful complexion.

2. Vitamin C

A powerhouse in skin brightening, vitamin C is also anti-inflammatory, an antioxidant, and helps protect skin from sun damage (you still need SPF!). This means when we use vitamin C as a regular part of our routine, we can expect a more even skintone and less redness.

3. Blend of 5 AHAs

Specifically for the new Vitamin C Microdermabrasion, Trilogy have created a unique blend of 5 powerful AHAs. Here's a breakdown of what their unique AHA blend is, and what each specifically do:

  • Lactic acid: Slows skin thinning.
  • Glycolic acid: Sloughs off dead cells and increases collagen and hyaluronic acid production.
  • Citric acid: Aids chemical exfoliation.
  • Malic and tartaric acids: Support facial toning by improving elasticity.

When should I use it?

Traditional microdermabrasion can only be done once every one to two months, but Trilogy designed theirs to be used two to three times a week. As with all skincare, it will be unique to the individual and will depend on what your skin best responds to so, as always, start slow and build up to what feels comfortable.

How should I use it?

Apply to warm, cleaned skin and gently massage to activate the pumice. Leave for approximately 3 minutes for the AHAs to do their magic, then thoroughly rinse off.
