We are committed to supplying high quality, natural health products that are safe and effective for the purposes for which they have been developed.

This is not as straight forward as it may at first seem: not everyone agrees with what constitutes ‘natural’; natural ingredients are complex and vary according to environmental influences; safety is always relative; and agreement as to the effectiveness of products is continuously changing as our understanding grows.

The best we can do is to support our products with information that is at all times honest, accurate and meaningful. We therefore take care to qualify our statements with words that indicate the evidence on which they are based: typically, we differentiate between evidence that is based on traditional use, on modern clinical practice, or on science (emerging or recognised). We also take care to define and discuss the meaning of important words we commonly use: for example, when we use the word ‘natural’ to refer to products, we do not just mean ‘pertaining to the natural world’, we mean ‘derived from the natural world with the minimum amount of intervention and with appreciation for the close evolutionary relationship between human beings and the natural world’.

At the start of the 21st century you would be excused for thinking that healthcare is all about medical treatment. In fact medical treatment is only one part of a far more complex healthcare equation at the heart of which lies us – living, thinking, feeling human-beings.

The part of the healthcare equation that interests the Natural Medicine Company most is how naturally occurring substances can be used to maintain or enhance human health. We rely on traditional experience and modern clinical practice to identify potential health benefits and then look to contemporary science to try and work out what exactly is going on. Typically we try to understand the health benefits of substances by reference to their nutritional value or to their direct effects on human physiology. In some cases scientific explanations are inadequate, non-existent or even negative. However, increasingly what science reveals about the products we supply is extraordinarily insightful – insightful, but invariably, such is the complexity of natural ingredients and the human body, never complete.

Our approach to healthcare is neither 'Alternative' nor 'Complementary' to the conventional healthcare endorsed by our Government. If anything, we considered what we are involved in as 'Primary' healthcare because healthcare should primarily be about caring for our health; we look on medically-orientated, conventional healthcare as secondary – something to be turned to when our individual attempts to be well fail. The term we chose to describe our approach to healthcare is 'Holistic': firstly because we are interested in all aspects of what makes us human; and secondly, because health is not dependent on the workings of any single part of us, but on how all of our parts function harmoniously together as an integrated whole.

Holistic healthcare, as promoted by the Natural Medicine Company is not the provenance of any single group or individual. Anyone – health professional or private individual – can be holistic in their approach to healthcare. In fact we would go so far as to assert that unless you adopt a holistic approach to health care, starting with taking personal responsibility for your health, you will not be healthy. Either way, our products always benefit from being used in a holistic context.

The Natural Medicine Company refers to its products collectively as ‘Health Products’ because they are produced, supplied and (hopefully!) used to restore, maintain or enhance health.

We also refer to many of these products as ‘natural’ because they are produced from natural ingredients, with sensitivity for the natural world, and with an awareness of the complex evolutionary relationship between living creatures and the world of Nature.

These Natural Health Products are organised into 3 main groupings, with a 4th catch all group (Other) for everything else:
